Nebraska Center for Excellence in Electronics, a leader in electronics compliance testing, welcomes Ryan Spaulding as its new executive director.

Spaulding returns to NCEE with a wealth of experience in the testing industry. His work began as a physics student in the lab setting up experiments to test the laws of nature. He continued this training and experience as a U.S. Air Force officer, both as a pilot and flight test engineer.

Located at the Nebraska Technology Park, NCEE houses a 10-meter, semi-anechoic chamber. This chamber is basically a Faraday cage that isolates radio wave energy from the rest of the universe. During frequent tours of the lab Spaulding says he enjoys pointing out the lack of mobile phone service inside the chamber when its doors are closed.

NCEE will continue to sustain its Nebraska manufacturing base and expand to meet its growing needs. Spaulding is optimistic about the lab’s growth in the safety testing field. Nebraska companies are fortunate, he says, to have a lab close by and the ability to test a product, make changes and return to the lab and test again- all in the same day. This greatly decreases the time necessary to bring a product to market.

Spaulding also envisions a greater partnership with both the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and Southeast Community College with education and internships for future engineers and technicians.

“We have this very unique and highly technical piece of equipment,” Spaulding says. “The opportunities here are just outstanding.” 

NCEE is a nonprofit operating company formed by a consortium of area electronics manufacturing companies. The Center was created through a unique public/private partnership between the state of Nebraska, Southeast Community College and the electronics industry.
